My Perspective

As a passive nihilist (born of skeptical pessimism) I tend to disbelieve in movements based on humanistic ideals. At the same time, I tend to doubt my own judgment in such matters because I know that I innately look at humans and the world from a rather dark corner. My continued interest in TZM (The Zeitgeist Movement) and TVP (The Venus Project) springs from my desire to be wrong in my negativity and open to the possibility of a better alternative.

When I posted my poll (How will humanity convert to a resource based economy? ) I was wondering how prevalent the idea of revolution is among people who wish to so dramatically alter human civilization from its' current trajectory. Given my penchant for negative forecasting, I don't think it is going to be very long before bad goes to worse and choices have to be made about how to respond to the deepening crisis of capitalism and the hardening of fascism.

My recent thinking on this subject has led me to the notion that the only way to get from here to an RBE (resource based economy) is through the bridge of socialism. Socialism has many faces and a bad reputation due to, among other things, Stalin-ism in the former Soviet Union and Mao-ism in China before they turned fascist. But those so-called Communist regimes had little to do with Marxist theory and the working people were not the beneficiaries as was planned before the counter-revolutions. Any revolution runs the risk of producing a worse situation than was the case before the revolt, but waiting for the PTB (powers that be) to come to their senses and decide that an RBE is in their best interest is not realistic.

A revolutionary communist movement with the objective of creating an RBE on a global scale could command the resources and political will to achieve what waiting on evolution cannot. Waiting for evolution will more likely bring about another dark ages if not the extinction of humanity. I'm not convinced we can avert disaster no matter what we do, but doing nothing but talking about some better future will clinch the deal. All species eventually go extinct, but humans appear to be the first that can foresee and maybe even forestall its' own demise.

Or am I just being too pessimistic...?

Interesting perspective indeed. I spent a few of my years into semi-nihilistic views as well, and still today I only bet the success of this evolution on a "Pascal's wager" which helps me live day by day.
Constantly divided by pessimism and optimism, I chose the second only for it is healthier to thi...

If I watch any Mainstream media news (which unfortunately I just can't help doing every day) ..I feel like there is no hope and the human race is certain to end (or almost end) within the coming century.
I can only find any REASON to feel optimism for the future from this movement and all the peopl...

I personally find that pessimism and optimism both have a role to play in our individuals viewpoint as long as we understand what is actucally goinin on within ourselves when we are either, we can then use these emotions as a bearing of the frequency of our consciousness. For example when i tend look...

There shouldn't be a doubt in anyone's mind that we are in for a struggle and even though all the odds may be against us - getting something positive done to help the world is far better than doing nothing.

I had a hard-drive that contained all the TZM stuff that I had scavenged off of the net and it...

Its really eerie stepping out into the world everyday, it feels like I've stepped into an alternate reality, everyone goes about their lives as though the coming calamity is nothing but a figment.

We are currently in a state of quantum superposition. If at the end of a measured amount of time, all the information you understand states that the cat will be dead when you open the door, I think that could tip the scale beyond 50-50 and you will find a dead cat. I would like to find it still...

Real quick question though, excuse my retardation. What does your cat represent in your comment? Humanity? Civilization? The future of the globe? Just a little confused. Your commnt has a very intresting direction

I think the last quote in the smithsonian says it all, “We are not on a sustainable trajectory.” I think the problem with this kind of charting is as you alluded to... overlooking the use of practices that ARE sustainable. Wtf! Why are we even trying to industrialize with materials that ar NON RENEW...

most people do agree that a major financial collapse would come before a RBE could have a chance at being taken seriously, most people are scared of changing so differently even if it makes total sense. To comfortable and not wanting to be educated is a common problem. However more and more people a...

Oh and I know Peter Joliff already gave out the link but I'd thought I would put it out there again since people seem to be of the opinion that we have to care about energy or water prodution anymore. I have to say; historically speaking all institutionalized thought at some point become enemies to ideas that threaten the 'established' frames of references, no matter if they are birthed outside/inside said institutions ideological framework. Not even the scientific method is immune to this. So ho...
